Blessing of the home, place of work, or land — clearing obstacles, inviting harmony.
Purification — known in the True Buddha School tradition as 修法淨宅 — is the Vajrayana practice of clearing and blessing a physical space, whether a home, a place of work, or a piece of land. At Veil Parasol Temple, the temple master performs this practice on request, bringing the lineage's ritual methods to spaces where families or businesses wish to clear lingering disturbance and invite continuous blessing.
Spaces accumulate. A home in which difficult events have occurred, a workplace marked by long discord, a piece of land with unclear history — each can hold residual influences that subtly affect those who dwell or work there. The Buddhist understanding does not regard this as superstition but as a natural consequence of the karmic imprints that thoughts, actions, and events leave on physical environments. The purification practice addresses these residues directly, transforming them through ritual invocation, mantra, and the dedication of merit.
The ritual itself is performed by the temple master on-site or at the temple, depending on the circumstance. It typically involves the invocation of specific deities — most often wrathful protectors who clear obstruction and peaceful deities who establish blessing — the recitation of purification mantras, the offering of incense and consecrated substances, and the formal dedication of merit for the wellbeing of all who occupy the space. For homes, family members may participate; for businesses, owners and staff may be present.
The practice may be requested at any time but is particularly recommended at significant transitions: moving into a new home, beginning a new business, after the resolution of difficulty, before a major undertaking, or as a periodic refreshment for spaces that have served the family or business for many years. The temple welcomes inquiries about the practice from those who wish to discuss its appropriateness for their particular situation.
When should we request this practice?
Common occasions include moving into a new home, beginning a new business, after a period of difficulty in a household, before a major life or business decision, or as a periodic blessing for spaces that have served the family for many years.
Is this for Buddhist households only?
The practice is rooted in Vajrayana ritual, so the methods are Buddhist. However, the temple welcomes inquiries from those of any background who wish to invite Buddhist blessing for their space. What matters is the sincerity with which the request is made.
Does the master visit our home, or do we come to the temple?
Both are possible, depending on the circumstance. Many families prefer the master to visit so that the blessing is performed within the actual space; for businesses or distant locations, an in-temple ritual on behalf of the space is also possible. We can discuss what suits your situation.
What do we need to prepare?
For an on-site ritual, a clean and ordered space, a central area where an altar can be temporarily set up, and the presence of family members or business owners where possible. The temple brings ritual materials. We will provide a checklist when arrangements are made.
Is the blessing one-time or ongoing?
The ritual is performed at the agreed time. Its blessing extends through the space, supported by the residents' continued practice. Families who wish to sustain the blessing may install a home altar, attend the temple regularly, and offer periodic dedications of merit.
